Important Restrictions & Updates

New Restrictions Effective January 21, 2026

The U.S. Department of State has implemented significant changes affecting Cabo Verde nationals applying for U.S. visas. These requirements apply to ALL applicants, including World Cup ticket holders using FIFA PASS.

B-1/B-2 Visitor Visas

  • Bond Requirement: Cabo Verde nationals who are otherwise eligible for B-1/B-2 visas must post a bond of up to $15,000 USD.
  • The consular officer will determine eligibility at the interview and provide bond payment instructions.
  • Visas cannot be issued until the bond is paid.
  • This requirement applies regardless of where the application is submitted (Cabo Verde or any other country).

Immigrant Visas

  • Processing Paused: All immigrant visa issuances to Cabo Verde nationals are currently paused due to concerns about high rates of public assistance usage.
  • Nationals may still apply and attend interviews, but no immigrant visas will be issued during this pause.

Other Nonimmigrant Visas

  • Applicants for H-1B, F, M, or J visas must adjust their social media privacy settings to "public" to facilitate vetting procedures.
  • All nonimmigrant visa applicants should schedule interviews at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in their country of residence or nationality.
